This female cardinal project could be a match mate for the "Winter Red" cardinal project. Even though the bright colored male cardinal is probably the one most often painted I find the subtle colors of the female more intriguing. Pairs of these birds would nest in the dogwood trees near my studio window giving me a chance to study their beautiful feather colors.
This is a beginner level project done on 5"x11" Crescent Smoke Grey suede mat board using Prismacolor Premier colored pencils.
