If you have not tried watercolor pencils this one is a good starting piece. It is a wet on wet technique with a soft background. I would suggest using a small piece of whatever surface you have chosen to practice so you can see how far the color will flare when wet. The extra optional wing piece gives a bit more dimension and could be cut from the practice piece. The Derwent pencils come in a 12 color set so the only extra one needed is a Chinese White.
